The Beginning
There is a version of the 1990s that doesn't exist without Austin St. John. When Mighty Morphin Power Rangers debuted in 1993, nobody had a roadmap for what it would become — least of all the people making it. Jason Lee Scott, the original Red Ranger, set the template not just for the franchise but for a certain kind of hero: the one who leads because he genuinely means it, not because the script requires it.
The character worked because the person behind it had something real to offer. Austin brought a presence to Jason that was grounded in years of actual training, genuine leadership instincts, and a willingness to show up all the way. The fans felt it. A generation of kids decided what a hero looked like based on what they saw on that screen, and it stayed with them.
Jason wasn't just the Red Ranger. He was the reason you believed in the Red Ranger.

The Discipline
The martial arts background was never a costume. Austin had been training since childhood — Taekwondo, Kenpo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and more — long before anyone had heard of Power Rangers. Every fight sequence he was actually allowed to perform himself landed differently than the others, and audiences noticed even if they couldn't articulate why.
That discipline extended beyond the dojo. The same commitment that made him effective on screen shaped how he approached his career, his military service, and his relationships with fans. It was never about the accolades. It was about doing the work the right way, every time, regardless of who was watching.
He has continued training, teaching, and competing throughout his life. The craft never stopped being something he took seriously — it just stopped being visible to most people once the cameras went away.

The Full Picture
Austin St. John enlisted in the military, serving as a combat medic and emergency medical technician — a fact that has never been loud in his public story but has always been part of who he is. The decision to serve was consistent with the person, not in contradiction with the celebrity. He was not the actor who happened to have a background. He was the person whose background happened to make him an actor people believed in.
The years between major franchise appearances were not empty. They were the years in which Austin became the version of himself he still is — a father, a veteran, a practitioner, a man who knows who he is outside of any role he's been asked to play.
The screen was one chapter. The life was the whole book.

The Community
Austin has never pretended the role didn't define part of his life, and the fans have never pretended it didn't define part of theirs. That mutual honesty is the reason the Alpha Squad exists. It is not a transaction dressed up as a community — it is a community that happens to involve a transaction.
He shows up. At conventions, in direct messages, in the live meet-and-greets that Alpha Squad members get access to throughout the year. He remembers that the reason he gets to have this relationship with his fans is because those fans made a decision — sometimes at a very young age — to care about something he was part of. He does not take that lightly.
Fanward exists, in part, because of that belief: that fans deserve a direct line to the people they admire, built on something more durable than an algorithm deciding what they get to see.
The fans kept the flame alive for thirty years. That deserves more than a repost.
